I recieved an email a few weeks ago notifying me that I needed to recieve the H1N1 vaccination by November in order to continue with my clinical requirements. One more thing to check off my list. I discovered that the Utah County Health department was getting a shipment in today and would be providing vaccinations to those in the priority groups including health care workers. Perfect. After class I rushed to the health department where I stood outside in a very long line,in the snow, for almost a half hour, only to be told by an oversized nurse in mickey mouse Halloween scrubs that they had run out. Good day self, Good day.
What are your thoughts on the swine flu vaccination? Will you be getting one this year? I would love to know your opinion on this somewhat controversial matter, I don't think that there is a wrong answer to this, I am just curious. I may just post my opinion at a later date.

Taniel!!! I absolutely love reading your posts. They crack me up. Anyways about the swine flu, it has attacked EVERYONE here in Connell, and no one has died, been hospitalized (that I know) yada yada yada. The elementary school has had almost all of the teachers get it, there are constantly students going home from school, later getting diagnosed with it. Amazingly enough we haven't gotten it yet, but I know it will make its way into our house soon. I mean Nate is the PE teacher, he obviously does not sterilize the balls, hula hoops, etc. Anyways all my friends that have gotten it say its being miserably sick for a week. Yuck, but at least they are fine now! I don't really know anything technical about it though, you probably know all the details. Anyways have a great day! and a dandy ol' time getting the vaccination!
I have had some friends (including classmates) tell me that they are going to hold off on the vaccination until it has been out for a while. That it is too new, and they want to see if it has any side effects first. Some say that it eerily reminds them of "I am Legend". On the other hand, I have a very pregnant friend who go the swine flu and said that she has never felt so sick in her life. She couldn't even get up off the bed, and just felt like she was coughing so hard that it was going to hurt the baby. She said that she would have received the vaccination over suffering through that anyday. What about the preservatives in the vaccination. Does that worry you?
I guess I'm just too trusting. I figure if they put out a vaccine and it's to help prevent something that I would rather do without, then sure, shoot me up! I hate being sick, and I've always believed that people are just too darn paranoid about everything and that so much of what people believe is just that--paranoia. Do I think that it is absolutely necessary for everyone to get the vaccine--not in this case. We're not talking polio here--but there are people that could avoid something serious. I hope they know who they are. I have tried to get the flu shots--both of them, but there are none available so all I can say is "Bring it on"--I have my tissue box ready!
I like your mom Taniel. :)
I generally feel the same way about Mom when it comes to vaccines -- that they are basically good things and some people are a little paranoid. As far as the big childhood vaccines go -- the ones you get your baby every 6 months, I think everyone needs to get them. It was only by widespread vaccinations that we got rid of diseases like polio and smallpox and I would rather those don't start coming back. Or measles for that matter. It is not like we can eradicate the flu, though, so that is kind of a different story. Still, I think I will take my chances with the vaccine. I know the side effects of the flu -- throwing up, high fevers, being miserable, and I would prefer to avoid that.
