Sick Day and a Christmas Tree

tree

Isaac and I both caught nasty colds last week and to prevent spreading our germs to everyone else, we decided to take a sick day. So we spent Thursday night and Friday sitting on the couch, watching Elf, blowing our noses, and enjoying having a reason to get to spend the day together. We also got to decorate for Christmas! Hooray. Isaac was so sweet to take me to get our tree on Saturday and he had started to write the following post about the experience which he never finished. I wanted to include it anyway

"We love this time of the year. It's so fun to watch Taniel because she gets SO excited about Christmas. We went to a local tree lot and picked out our favorite one. It looks wonderful. Taniel has several ornaments from her childhood. Her family has a tradition where everybody gets an ornament each year. It was really neat to hear about what each one means. It gives our tree a more special meaning. "

More to come on holiday celebrations in future posts. Being sick is awful, especially when you feel like your head is going to explode, but when you get to be sick with your best friend, it makes it bearable, and even enjoyable. Especially when you have a beautiful tree to look at.

I'm so glad all those ornaments we carefully picked out for you over the years are bringing back some good Christmas memories! It makes me happy to see your first Christmas tree together as a new family.

I read your post forever ago, but never commented on it. Shame on me. I thought I had. It was funny, I was looking at your picture of your tree and I could pick out ornaments of yours that I remember -- the toolbox, the schoolbus, the globe. It brought back memories for me too, of how excited we were to unwrap those ornaments every year and remember why we got them and to decide who had the best ones. Thanks for sharing with us!
