Out and About

sweet corn
Isaac and I wanted to get out and see the town the last weekend and we figured the Sweet Corn Festival was the perfect opportunity. After all, Illinois and corn go together like peanut butter and jelly, Idaho and potatoes, or Isaac and airplanes. It was really fun. We got our faces all buttery eating lots of corn on the cob, browsed the booths, sampled various tasty treats, and ate some great pulled pork while we listened to the live band play. As dorky as it may sound, we also really enjoyed watching the corn husker. This machine was seriously fascinating. It looked like the machine that Bell's dad makes on Beauty and the Beast: loud, somewhat rudimentary, a little rusty, but worked like a charm. The corn was then cooked using water boiled inside this old wood burning steam engine. You would have thought it was cool too had you been there--trust me.

Saturday we kicked off Aerospace grad school by attending an airshow. To Isaac's delight they had a B-2 stealth bomber fly over, and had several cool planes on display including a Chinook helicopter and some decked out Cessnas. My favorite part though was the biplane doing cool tricks in the air, it reminded me of an old World War I dogfight. There was even a rocket powered school bus that Isaac decided needed to be a provided mode of transportation for Aerospace students. It was a fun way to get Isaac excited about his studies and to see the area a little more.

Oh, I wish we lived close enough to do these kind of things together! I love little random festivals! (Hence why we spent a day a the annual street magician's festival). I bet Isaac was in heaven at that air show. It even looks fun to me! Funny post. Thanks for making me laugh.

I just showed this post to Jack and Eve. Jack is freaking out about the airplanes and Eve is freaking out at the picture of Isaac with the corn. She keeps reaching for the computer saying "Iguc!"
