"I Don't Trust You Phyllis!"

Yesterday I posted this very long, detailed story about how Isaac and I lost 300 dollars buying a non-functioning washer and dryer from a man named Skip. I was feeling upset about the whole situation and writing it all out was somewhat therapeutic. However, we received in the mailbox this morning a $300 check from Skip as promised, and I began to feel a little bad about how I had portrayed this man in my story and decided to the delete the post. I may have been too quick to judge.

The short version of the story is this: We bought a used, guaranteed washer and dryer set for 300 dollars. When we set them up (after a lot of work getting them up the stairs), we found they didn't work. The seller, Skip, was difficult to get in contact with and told us if we got them to his shop, his mechanics would fix them as they did have a 90 day guarantee. We instead asked for a refund. Skip was upset, but finally obliged. He came and picked them up in his trailer, but told us that we would get a refund when he sold another set as he didn't have the money to pay us back right then. He told us that it would likely take 1-2 weeks, and that we could trust him. We tried to argue, but in the end agreed. We tried calling him during those 2 weeks, but weren't able to really reach him. After 2 1/2 weeks, we received a check in the mail from Skip for $300. We hope it doesn't bounce.

Ugh!! That stinks, Taniel! I hate that we live in a world that we have to worry about that kind of thing.

Oh Man!!! I hate stuff like that. We had a similar deal at a car dealership and $200. Clint could only take the car home overnight if he gave them $200, which we would be refunded if we brought the car back within 24 hours. We brought it back and the guy wasn't there. After all the mess of trying to get in touch with the guy we never got it back. Dishonest people are the worst.

PS. You can rent a truck from Home Depot for $20. We haven't tried it, but whenever we consider getting something that we would need a truck for, that is what we will do. :)

Mmmm... I thought the best part was that his name was Skip. I laughed every time I read his name. Maybe I shouldn't laugh at your misfortune. Also, I read the whole post before you deleted it. I am glad he gave you your money back. I feel kinda bad for the guy, even if he was was a big pain in the rear. I am not sure why he was so angry though, since the washer didn't work, and who runs businesses selling washers out of storage units, anyway?

That was weird that I started my comment with "mmm..." It sounds like I thought something was delicious. I meant to say "Hmmmm..." As in, I am thinking about this...

I never got to read your post, but I got the whole detailed story over the phone. I'm guessing your writing was better than the phone conversation though. Maybe you should write Skip a thank you note for being honest in the end. I wonder if he has a blog, and what he wrote in it about you two?! Hahahahaha
